The International Association For Disabled Sailing (IFDS) are accepting nominations for the IFDS Equipment Evaluation Commission, which has been given the task to evaluate equipment for future Paralympic Sailing Competitions.
The equipment for the 2008 Paralympic Sailing Competition is the 2.4 Metre for Single-Person Keelboat, SKUD18 for the Two-Person Keelboat and the Sonar for the Three-Person Keelboat.
Evaluations will be carried out in 2007 and 2008 on equipment for the Single-Person and Three-Person events at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competitions. Equipment evaluation for the Two-Person Keelboat event at the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Sailing Competitions will commence in 2010.
The IFDS Equipment Evaluation Commission has been given the task to evaluate equipment for the Paralympic Sailing Competitions. The immediate tasks ahead are to refine the evaluation process used in 2005 and 2006 and then implement that process to choose suitable equipment.
The IFDS Executive Committee will appoint the members to the Equipment Evaluation Commission. Members will be chosen based on skill, experience and contribution. The concept is to create a small group of experts rather than a large body of representatives each with their own special interests.
Individuals interested in assisting in the evaluation process for the Single-Person and Three-Person Keelboat events are requested to contact the IFDS Secretariat. Skill sets should cover: Performance Sailing, Disability Integration, Equity in Competition and Organization.
