FUNK And TUNNICLIFFE Lead After Day One

The ISAF Grade 1 Laser Midwinters East got underway in Clearwater, USA yesterday, with Brad FUNK (USA) and Anna TUNNICLIFFE (USA) making the early running. After losing her Laser Radial world #1 spot on 7 February, TUNNICLIFFE was on top form for the start in Florida, posting two bullets in her first two races.

The ISAF Grade 1 Laser Midwinters East got underway in Clearwater, USA yesterday, with Brad FUNK (USA) and Anna TUNNICLIFFE (USA) making the early running. After losing her Laser Radial world #1 spot on 7 February, TUNNICLIFFE was on top form for the start in Florida, posting two bullets in her first two races.

Her 1,1 start gives TUNNICLIFFE a three point lead ahead of Lisa ROSS (CAN). In third place overall Gintare VOLUNGEVICIUTE (LTU) maintained her strong start to the season with a 3,2 opening.

2006 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Paige RAILEY (USA), the winner in Clearwater for the past two years, had a mixed opening. She followed a bullet with an 18th place to lie in 14th overall in the mixed fleet of 98 sailors.


FUNK and Clayton JOHNSON (USA) tie for the lead in the 88 strong Laser fleet on four points. The tie goes in FUNK‘s favour after his bullet in the opening race, whilst JOHNSON started with 2,2 scores. World #1 Paul GOODISON (GBR) lies in third place overall with a fourth place and a bullet to his name. Fellow Brit Nick THOMPSON (GBR) is tied with his team mate after a 1,4 start.
