SIGNORINI Takes The Honours

João SIGNORINI (BRA), participating in his first Finn competition since sailing Brasil 1 in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-06, won his fifth Brazilian Championship in São Paulo.

The event, hosted by Yacht Club Paulista, ended on 25 January and had its largest number of participants to date. No doubt this was in part because the Brazilian Championship is part of the selection process for the Brazilian Finn entry to the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition in Qingdao, China.

Overcast, some rain and shifting winds from 6-15 knots marked the six-day event held on Lake Guarapiranga, 10 km from São Paulo’s business centre and skyscrapers.

SIGNORINI, from Rio de Janeiro, won ten of the 15 races to take the title. Second was the eight-times Brazilian Champion, Jorge ZARIF. ZARIF‘s 14 year old son, Jorguinho, also sailed the event, and did well considering the opponents and his young age.
