The new and improved Women’s Match Racing Association (WIMRA) site is up and running and ready to be used at www.wimra.org. Work on the site is ongoing and new improvements will be coming online in the future.
The site allows designated members to update content online, and will feature a calendar, regatta reports and photo gallery dedicated to women’s match racing. Planned features coming up are sailor Q&As and sailor profiles.
WIMRA was formed in 1996 to promote, coordinate and supervise women’s international match race sailing and work for the inclusion of a women’s match racing event in the Olympic Games. These goals are still forefront in the organization’s focus.
Women’s match racing has gone from strength to strength over the last few years. The number of skippers on the Women’s ISAF World Match Race Rankings has grown from 126 at the end of 2003 to 151 in 2004, 185 in 2005 and 196 in 2006. There are seven ISAF Grade 1 Women’s Match Racing events scheduled for 2007, with the ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championship taking place in St Quay, France from 6-11 August.
ISAF has a keen and long standing commitment to Women’s Sailing, and both the ISAF Women’s Sailing Committee and ISAF Women’s Forum focus on the development of women’s sailing.
