Sunfish racers from around the globe are gathering in Charleston, South Carolina, USA for the 2006 Sunfish World Championship from 1-7 October. 15 nations will be represented in the fleet, which also includes six previous World Champions.
Sunfish racers from around the globe are gathering in Charleston, South Carolina, USA for the 2006 Sunfish World Championship from 1-7 October. 15 nations will be represented in the fleet, which also includes six previous World Champions.
The 100 strong entry list includes competitors representing Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, Canada, Bermuda, and New Zealand., along with the current North and South American and European Champions. Whilst Lucas GONZALEZ SMITH (ARG) will not defend his title, previous World Championship winners Curacao’s Cor Van AANHOLT (AHO) and Stephen SMEULDERS (AHO), Paul-Jon PATIN (USA), Malcolm SMITH (BER) and Donnie MARTINBOROUGH (BAH) all line up.
A total of eight races are scheduled and competitors will have to contend not only with a high calibre of competition among the 100 strong fleet, but also with Charleston’s tricky tidal waters. Following the Opening Ceremony on 1 October, racing takes places from 2-5 October, with a reserve day and the prizegiving on Friday 6 October.
