Home Success For HUSTON
Home town hero Tony HUSTON (USA) and his Long Island Sound 2 team of Chris ZIMMERMAN and Dan JENNINGS have won the 2006 International One Design World Championship in Rye, New York, USA. HUSTON and his crew beat Bill WIDNALL's (USA) Marblehead team into second place.
Home town hero Tony HUSTON (USA) and his Long Island Sound 2 team of Chris ZIMMERMAN and Dan JENNINGS have won the 2006 International One Design World Championship in Rye, New York, USA. HUSTON and his crew beat Bill WIDNALL’s (USA) Marblehead team into second place.
High winds and seas postponed the start of racing on the final day on Long Island Sound, but the ten boats contesting the world title eventually got out to complete their final race. HUSTON held a five point lead over David ROCKEFELLER (USA) with WIDNALL and Jim BISHOP (USA) in a tie for third.
A fifth place in the final race was enough to guarantee victory for HUSTON, whilst WIDNALL claimed the second spot on the podium thanks to a third place in the final race. Norway’s Jan Peter ROED had a great final race coming in second to jump up and win a very close fight for the bronze medal.
