NEUGODNIKOV Wins Out
World number seven Eugeniy NEUGODNIKOV (RUS) defeated Neville WITTEY (AUS) in the final to take the ISAF Grade 1 Yava Trophy in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Andrew ARBUZOV (RUS) had earlier claimed third place with victory in the petit-final.
World number seven Eugeniy NEUGODNIKOV (RUS) defeated Neville WITTEY (AUS) in the final to take the ISAF Grade 1 Yava Trophy in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Andrew ARBUZOV (RUS) had earlier claimed third place with victory in the petit-final.
Yesterday in variable weather which at times produced thunderstorms and hard rain, NEUGODNIKOV had won a fiercely fought semi-final match against Eugeniy NIKIFOROV (RUS) 3-2. Meanwhile WITTEY beat 2000 and 2001 winner ARBUZOV 3-1 to book his place in the today’s final.
Before the final got underway ARBUZOV and NIKIFOROV lined up in a battle for third place, won by ARBUZOV 2-1. WITTEY took an early advantage in the final with victory in the first race but from then on it was all NEUGODNIKOV, with the Russian winning three in a row to take the title.
