Swiss Take The Title

Switzerland’s Erich and Reudi MOSER were crowned 2006 Fireball World Champions in Victoria, Canada last Friday, taking the title with an impressive twelve point winning margin.

Two bullets helped the Swiss team to a strong position going into the final day, and a bullet in the opening race set them up perfectly. Throughout the series consistency was the key for the Swiss pair, with just three scores out of the top three in the eight races.

Race eight saw them take eighth, and with the wind dying before a final race nine could be started the Championship was theirs.

Canadians Second

Canadians Grant LAMONT and Tom EGLI failed to score a bullet, but were steady in the 3-6 range and landed second overall. Meanwhile Australians Heather MACFARLANE and Chris PAYNE were hungry for a ninth race to throw out a 22 and 26, but in the end it was not to be. Two firsts helped secure them a third place on countback from early leaders Sam METTAM and Keri HARRIS (GBR).

The awards ceremonies took place in the Canadian Forces Base Officer mess. In accepting the prize for first place Erich explained that he had, ‘always wanted to be a champion’ since a young age. He explained that repeatedly, ‘I came so close. Now I am finally the World Fireball Champion!’
