Championship Underway
The Optimist South American Championship got underway in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia yesterday with 192 sailors from 18 countries set to battle for honours. As well as the South American competitors team from Malaysia, Singapore and Switzerland are also taking part, all of which have South American coaches.

The reigning North and South American champions of 2005, Alex ZIMMERMANN (PER) and Diego REYES (MEX) are still eligible and present, as is the reigning top girl Maria José CUCALON (ECU). Among other notable participants are Mac AGNESE (USA), who at only eleven years old was part of James SPITHILL‘s (AUS) winning crew at the 2005 Melges 24 World Championship.
Racing continues all week and includes the South American Championship Team Racing Championships and the open Copa de Naciones Team Racing event.
