Racing Underway In Uruguay

Racing at the ISAF Grade C1 Laser Central And South American Championships got underway in Punta del Este, Uruguay yesterday, with the 82 strong Laser Radial fleet taking to the water. Florencia CERUTTI (ARG) was the top woman finisher in the opening race.

Amongst the 82 competitors in the Laser Radial fleet, 24 women from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Peru, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are battling for big points in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings.

In yesterday’s opening race CERUTTI came in eighth overall, and top woman. At number 36 in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, Adriana KOSTIW (BRA) started the championship as a clear favourite, and 14th place and second woman was a solid start for the Brazilian. Two places back and third woman was Argentina’s Cecilia CARRANZA.

Fabio DUTRA (BRA) took the opening bullet of the championship in the open fleet, ahead of Guilherme Barbosa LIMA (BRA) and Luis CANUTO (ARG).

The Yacht Club Punta del Este are hosting the Laser Central And South American Championships from 7-16 April.

Ten races are scheduled for the series, with racing in the Laser Radial continuing until 11 April. The battle in the Laser and Laser 4.7 then gets underway from 12-16 April.
