Brits Lead After Day Two

It is tight at the top of the 2005 Enterprise World Championship with just a point separating leaders Richard ESTAUGH and Pete ROWLEY (GBR) from Mamoon SADIQ and Abdul HAMEED (PAK) after a testing second day in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

The 2005 Worlds was postponed from February last year following the Tsunami.

Today, wind conditions varied from light to flukey in the morning to finally peaking at 13-15 knots for the second race.

The Race Committee tried various types of starts even the dreaded Black Flag was tried by the very harassed Race Officer, who could for the life of him could not understand why there were no less than six general recalls.

The day started hot and sultry with hardly any wind, resulting in the Race Committee having to postpone the first race of the day for over an hour waiting for the wind conditions to improve.

Underway At Last

Finally the wind settled at around 13.15 having swung around 150 degrees and picked up to a healthy ten knots. The Race Committee opted for a windward/leeward race for both of the races.

After victories in day one’s races went to Jeremy STEPHENS and Matt JOHNSON (GBR) and ESTAUGH and ROWLEY, today was the turn of the Pakistani teams to shine, with bullets for Zahid RAUF an Rana WAQAS and then second place SADIQ and HAMEED. That win in race four puts SADIQ and HAMEED just a point behind the leaders, with just a further three points separating them from STEPHENS and JOHNSON in third.
