The World Championship winning team of Sally BARKOW, Carrie HOWE and Deborah CAPOZZI (USA) are continuing their recent purple patch, holding the lead in the ISAF Grade C1 Yngling North American Championship going into the final day of racing in Miami, Florida, USA.
Although the successful trio of BARKOW, HOWE and CAPOZZI have also spent a lot of time on the match racing circuit, they are heading for their fourth straight victory in a major Yngling Championship, although, unlike their dominant display at the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR last week, this time things look much closer going into the final day.
After six races, the Spanish team of Monica AZON, Graciela PISONERO and Sandra AZON lie just three points behind the leading Americans, and will go into the final day on a high after scoring a bullet in yesterday’s one race. Hannah SWETT, Melissa PURDY and Liz FILTER (USA) are also right on the heels of the leaders, just five points back in third place. However both they and the fourth place British team of Sarah AYTON, Sarah WEBB and Victoria RAWLINSON went OCS in yesterday’s race, meaning they have absolutely no room for error today.
For BARKOW, HOWE and CAPOZZI, a second victory in Miami could well prove doubly significant with big points up for grabs just a few days before the ISAF World Sailing Rankings are released on Wednesday 8 February.
Racing concludes in the twelve strong Yngling fleet today.
The Yngling North American Championship is taking place as part of the Winter Circuit surrounding the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR, which took place from 22-27 January.
