The American pair of Dalton BERGAN and Zach MAXAM overcame a disappointing start to hold the lead at the midway point of the ISAF Grade C1 49er North American Championship in Miami, Florida, USA.
After going OCS in race one, finishes of 2,1,5 followed by consecutive bullets in races five, six and seven give the pair a six point lead halfway through the scheduled 15 races. Number four in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings Nico DELLE KARTH and Nicko RESCH (AUT) lie in second place, ahead of Poland’s Pawel KACPROWSKI Fedusio ARKADIUSZ.
Lurking dangerously in fourth place, within nine points of the lead, are Olympic silver medallists and reigning World Champions Rodion LUKA and George LEONCHUK (UKR).
Racing concludes in the 19 strong 49er fleet tomorrow.
The 49er North American Championship is taking place as part of the Winter Circuit surrounding the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR, which took place from 22-27 January.
