Bonezzi Wins Another One
It was a deserved victory for Andrea BONEZZI (ITA), who won his fifth Contender world title last week. After winning the Italian Championship for the eleventh time the week before, Bonezzi went on to retain the title he won in 2003, 1991, 1997 and 1999.
It was a deserved victory for Andrea BONEZZI (ITA), who won his fifth Contender world title last week. After winning the Italian Championship for the eleventh time the week before, Bonezzi went on to retain the title he won in 2003, 1991, 1997 and 1999.
Second place went to the Australian Marcus HAMILTON, who was just five points adrift of Bonezzi, and Giovanni BONZIO (ITA) took third.
“I’m satisfied, yes… I always think to myself that every time is the last time, but I can’t help doing this!” said Bonezzi as back in port “but I still don’t know who to dedicate this title. There are many people who deserve it, I just need to think about it, for a while… It’s been a great championship, well organized and where everything was quite perfect! Mistakes? They’re just up to us competitors…”. Bonzio says “I’m very happy, it’s obvious! Though the disqualification in the first race, and today’s breaking in the eighth race (the pivot that fastens the stays to the mast), and a couple of capsizings… but now it’s all gone, and I’m satisfied for my result! The title to Bonezzi? It’s really well-deserved! Believe me…”. For Lorenzi, all changed after the fifth race, but he admitted that some mistakes in his valutation brought him to his bad results. “My third place in the today’s last regatta couldn’t change the results” he said while having his plate of pasta, before the prize-giving.
