Two new World Champions were crowned yesterday with the conclusion of the Zoom 8 World Championships in Carcans-Maubuisson, France. Ten races were completed in mixed conditions.
Two new World Champions were crowned yesterday with the conclusion of the Zoom 8 World Championships in Carcans-Maubuisson, France. Ten races were completed in mixed conditions.
The Swedish team dominated the boy class throughout this championship and there was no surprise to see them clean up with a “hat trick” of medals. Charlie EKBERG, a 14 year sailor from Stockholm, a veteran in the class with two seasons, took the gold medal followed by his club mate, Fredrik SCHRAMM. Gustav DAHLBORG from Gothenburg took bronze!
In the girls event, the European champion Karolina WOLNIEWICZ from Stettin, Poland, sailed very well but had a closely fought battle with Sweden’s Rebecka HARDING. After winning the first two races, Harding also took the bullet in the last three of the champion to finish a tantalising one point behind Wolniewicz. The “rookie” from Russia, Maria ROUDSKAYA took bronze.
