With less than a week to go for the national sailing championships, top competitors from across the country are doing some last preparations to try to win the prestigious title of National Champion.
From October 20-25, these top sailors will be at Lake Norman Yacht Club in Mooresville, NC, to race in US SAILING’s U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Championships. Both events are sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A.
For most competitors, it’s been a long road to get the U.S. Championships. Sailors had to qualify for the event by winning qualifying events at local and regional levels. Only one team from every US SAILING area in the country can qualify for the national event. The men’s and women’s fleets use the same race course but sail different classes of boats: the women will race in Flying Scots and the men will compete in Highlanders.
