First Race Day

Vincent HOESCH (GER) outclassed the competition in the first race of the H-Boat World Championship on the Ammersee, Germany.

Hoesch finished a clear two and a half minutes ahead of the Dane Sören WISSING in second and four minutes ahead of Wolfgang DÖRING in third.

67 participants from nine nations are at the Augsburger Yacht Club for the championship which kicked off yesterday with a force three easterly breeze. The first start was recalled twice and on the third attempt to get the fleet away the race committee used the black flag.

The second race was started without delay and this time it was Norbert WAGNER, Dr. Christian VOETH and Manfred GRÖSCHEL (GER) who took the bullet – a dramatic improvement on the 51 they scored in Race One. Second over the line was Micki LIEBL, Petra DIETZ and Hans KAGERER (GER) followed by Klaus TILLMANNS, Christian SCHÄFER and Leo LIERET in third.

Liebl’s fourth in Race One and second in Race Two is enough to put him six points clear at the top of the leaderboard ahead of his felllow countrymen Dirk STADLER/Patric PURIN/Markus FUNKE who, with a fifth and a seventh lie in second overall on 12 points. Third overall is Wolfgang DÖRING, Thomas KAUSEN and Norbert KAUSEN who have scored a third and a tenth so far.

Despite his outstanding performance in Race One, Hoesch only finished 31 in Race Two to leave him in eleventh overall.

Racing continues today and until Friday. If five races have not been sailed, Saturday is reserved as an extra race day to ensure the championship is completed.
