After a breezy penultimate day, the final race day of the 2003 IFDS World Championship produced conditions worthy of the championship. UDO HESSELS is the new World Champion in the Sonar after fourth in the last race secured victory.
Second was Dror COHEN (ISR), who, after a disappointing 14 and discard on the final day, meant he missed out on the Gold medal by a mere five points.
Britain’s Robertson and crew of Stephen THOMAS and Hannah STODEL celebrated their bronze medal at the 2003 World Disabled Sailing Championships by winning the last race of the Sonar class series today (Friday).
A win in the final race for John ROBERTSON was a good round up for the British crew in the Sonar class. Already assured of bronze going into the last of the nine race series in Athens, the win in the final race capped the series well.
In the 2.4mR Class, Heiko KROGER (GER) once again proved his utter dominance of the class that has seen him Win a number of World Championships and a Paralympic Gold medal in Sydney 2000.
He was followed in second place by Damien SEGUIN (FRA)in silver and Thierry SCHMITTER (NED) in third. A fantastic result for the Dutch Team as a whole, who as a result head the medal table with a bronze and a gold medal. Full results are available on the event website at the address below.
