Spain Dominate After Day One

The other two Spaniards Jesus ROGEL and Ruben Fernandez QUINTANO where third and fourth respectively in a round sailed in a poniente wind of nine knots and lasting 64 minutes. In the second race with the poniente wind blowing at eleven knots, and after 48 minutes duration to complete 4.5 nautical miles of course, the Swede dominated, going into first place ahead of Oscar CLAESON, Claeson ARVID and Patrick JOHANSSON. Manuel JIMENEZ and Jesus ROGEL were fourth and fifth respectively in the trials which were held on the course by the lighthouse in Puerto Sherry.
A total of 63 sailors from Argentina (1), Belgium (1), Denmark (9), Spain (7), USA (1), France (12), Great Britain (5), Italy (4), Japan (1), Norway (7), Portugal (4), Czech Republic (1), Sweden (9) have registered for the World Championship Europe Class for Men.
More than 110 sailors have registered to take part in the World Championship for the Women’s Open Week of the same Class to be held Friday 4th – 9th September. Among them are the first three sailors in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings: Norweigian Siren SUNDBY followed by the Finnish Sari MULTALA, and in third place the German Petra NIEMANN.
Meanwhile, many other participants are making their way to the Bay of Cadiz, and the Accreditations Tent is now up and running. Also, security has been installed at the different sites within the venue. More than 600 volunteers, who have so generously given of their time to the ISAF World Championships 2003 Cadiz, are now installed in the various departments within the Organization.
