Future Olympians?

Starting tomorrow with registration and measurement, with the first race being held on Sunday, 23 nations from four continents are represented in this useful prelude for any aspiring Olympians.

Being held on the beautiful Lake Neusiedl in Austria, and hosted by the Burgenlandischer Yacht Club in Rust, the event will see the best young, European 470 sailors compete first of all in a series of qualification races, before the fleet is split for the finals, to decide the European Junior Champion.

Joining the usual crowd of European, and South American sailors will also be the recently crowned ISAF Youth Sailing World Champions Nathan OUTTERIDGE and Ayden MENZIES (AUS), who won the boys double-handed discipline at the event in Madeira. They are using the event as useful practice before attending the ISAF World Championships in Cadiz next month, where they are sure to push for the top.

Lake Neusiedl is a shallow lake with an average water depth of 1-1.6 m. Prevailing wind conditions are usually strong from the North or North-west, but a morning thermal breeze from the east is known to happen.
