Fresher conditions off the Old Head of Kinsale yesterday afternoon saw several class household names to the fore following race two of the Setanta Dragon European Championship.
HRH Prince Frederik of Denmark scored a third place to retain his overall lead of the event with a 12-point margin at the front of a Danish dominated front pack.
Yesterday saw Louis URVOIS score a 31 place in race one so today’s race win was a welcome boost for the French skipper who moves into ninth overall, taking over from former Olympian Fred IMHOFF whose second place today places him second overall.
Class master Poul Richard HOJ-JENSEN also displayed his mettle with a fifth place bringing the double-Olympic Gold medalist from tenth to fifth overnight.
Meanwhile the Irish fleet had a less than hoped for performance today. Although Ward WOODS produced a perfect start and went on to score an eighth place, a 38th from Monday still leaves the Dublin skipper 23 overall.
Former national champion Andrew CRAIG had a 24 place and slipped down from fifth to tenth overnight on an otherwise poor day for the top home fleet crews.
