One Week To Go

The first teams have checked into the new Pan American Village in Santo Domingo, with the USA, Canada, and Argentina leading the way for another 4000 athletes and officials now making their way to the Dominican Republic.

Near daily ribbon-cutting ceremonies with sports demonstrations have been on tap this week for Dominican Republic President Hipolito Mejia. He is promising an “open chequebook” from the government for the next three weeks to make sure the games are successful.

A half-dozen venues were opened this week, along with the Pan Am Village.

Pan American Sports Organization President Mario Vazquez Rana, who has been a critical overseer of preparations in Santo Domingo. praised the village and other works he’s seen since arriving mid-week.

The 14th Pan American Games will take place August 1 to 17 with 5,000 athletes from 42 nations. The sailing regatta will see medals contested in the following classes:

J24
Laser Radial
Laser – Dinghy
Mistral – Board Men
Snipe
Sunfish
Mistral – Board Woman
