Day One

After one day racing it is last years’ European Champion who is leading the Gold Fleet. Georg BACKES (GER) scored two first places in most difficult sailing conditions.

With very light and shifty winds it was very unpredictable on the race course with the sailors making difficult decisions as to which side of the course was the best to take. In one race, Georg climbed from way down amongst the pack in the twenties up to the third by having a lucky shift advantage, from there he fought off two more boats and got in first position.

Many sailors didn’t make the time limit of fifteen minutes after the first finisher in the first race.

Twenty five boats started in the silver fleet and they also sailed two races in the difficult, shifty conditions. Leading is at the moment Austrian team: Franz and Ruth WITTMANN

There are three more racing days scheduled and the competitors will be hoping that the wind will fill in for some good sailing. Unfortunately this morning has dawned with rain and no wind but racing will hopefully get underway soon.

Tonight a Clinic will be held by Gavin COLBY (NZL), the 2002 Hobie 16 World Champion, about sailing the Hobie 16 with a spinnaker.
