The Renault skiff.tv Italian GP in the sensational Riva del Garda lived up to everyone’s expectations with perfect 22-24 knot winds, flat water and 19 heavily contested races in 4 days.
The big fight was between the Danish, multiple Italian, French, Japanese and Australian teams with Austria and Switzerland throwing in most exceptional boat performances.
Even though SIBELLO played the home town advantage for everything that it was worth, the cool machine like and honed performance of the Danish ANDERSEN/HESTBEK team could not be thwarted though everyone through everything at them!
What in other class may have been terms very dirty play, but in the 49er was seen as just good clean fun, SIBELLO through everything at the Danes but simply could not dent the exceptional consistency.
The surprise entry in the tour has been the quite unexpected return to form of the French team of AUDINEAU/CHRISTIDIS, not only just taking it to the Danes and Italians but giving a good hard lesson in strong wind sailing. Scoring an OSC in an I flag start, breaking the line 20 secs before the gun but then not realizing and starting correctly to go on to a possible second place, a reversal would not have scored them second place but would have brought them within 1 point of the Italians.
Next leg of the Skiff.TV is in the UK in late July, early August!!!!
