Day 6 - Frustrating Day on the Beach
The day started off sunny and calm at the Mistral European Championship in Palermo yesterday, resulting in a seven hour postponement until competitors were sent on the water at 16:30 local time when a light evening breeze kicked in.
The day started off sunny and calm at the Mistral European Championship in Palermo yesterday, resulting in a seven hour postponement until competitors were sent on the water at 16:30 local time when a light evening breeze kicked in.
Unfortunately, it was not sufficient to start any racing before the deadline of 18:00 local time and a mentally exhausted fleet were once again returned to the beach, hot and botheren.
This means that the results are as for the previous day, when the fleet enjoyed an awesome day of heavywind sailing. Julien BONTEMPS (FRA), currently leads the men’s fleet whilst in the women’s fleet, Italian Mistral guru and 2002 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year nominee Alessandra SENSINI leads by a single point from Faustine MERRET (FRA), who is on equal points with Lee Lai SHAN (HKG).
Today, competitors have been sent to the race area at Capo Gallo, and things look more promising for a race start, racing concludes tomorrow, 15 May.
