Tough Conditions For Day Two

Day two at the Lightning Worlds, produced a light, changeable breeze across Biscayne Bay, which coupled with a short chop, made sailing tough, unpredictable, and sometimes frustrating.

With three races sailed in the hardest of conditions, as any sailor will agree, Bill Faude (USA), and George Fisher (USA), remained remarkably consistant, the only two teams to record two results in the top ten, they now lead the championship in first and second respectively.

Tito Gonzalez (CHI), day one’s overnight leader, faltered somewhat in the first race of day two, finishing 31, possibly due to the huge right hand shift after the start, leaving anyone who went for the Port end dead and buried by the windward mark. He did, however, redeem himself by claiming a second in the third race so far of the regatta, and finishes day two in fourth place.

It seemed like the sea breeze would establish itself for the second race, but in fact, the race became very light. Without the effect of the huge startline shift, some of the regulars were once again returned to the fray. The race was won by Luiz Lebreiro (BRA), who, with a fourth in race one and an OCS in race in race 2, currently lies in 15 place.

Many competitors will be praying for enough races to be sailed in order to discard their worst result, this will see some huge changes in the results in what is already turning out to be a high scoring regatta.
