The 31 IODA South American Optimist Championship started yesterday in Montevideo, Uruguay. 161 sailors from fifteen countries are entered and the fleet is divided into six divisions with three successive starts.

The 31 IODA South American Optimist Championship started yesterday in Montevideo, Uruguay. 161 sailors from fifteen countries are entered and the fleet is divided into six divisions with three successive starts.
After the first two races Geronimo Palacios (ARG) leads from Marco Grael, the latest product of the famous Brasilian Olympian family. Edgar Diminich (Ecuador) lies third just ahead of Andrew Lewis, the first ever representative of Trinidad at the event. Fifth and first girl is Tania Zimmermann of Peru.
