Updated Rankings to March 1 2003

The Volvo Ocean Race and the Route du Rhum both helped redistribute the cards at the end of the 2002 season. The skippers of the multihulls in the Route du Rhum were rocked by the storms that swept across the North Atlantic last November.

This intermediary rankings table highlights two characteristics of the FICO LACOSTE Championship: on one hand, a large international contingent underlined by the choice of events and, on the other hand, the diversity of competing skippers, crew and sponsors.

Several new names have made their way up to the top of the table. Their presence at the top of the rankings confirms their great yachting skills and their exceptional experience oceanic racing.

Thanks to points acquired during the 2002 racing season, skippers from four different nations figure amongst the top five in the skippers’ championship as of March 1 2003:

1 – John Kostecki (USA) – (200 points),
2 – Neal McDonald (GBR) – (160 points),
3 – Grant Dalton (NZL) – (140 points),
4 – Roland Jourdain (FRA) – (120 points)
4 – Kevin Schoebridge (NZL) – (120 points),
6 – Ellen MacArthur (GBR) – (102 points),
7 – Michel Desjoyeaux (FRA) – (100 points)

In the crew members’ championship the top spots are occupied by the winning crew from New Zealand in the Volvo Ocean Race.
