Variable Final Day and Winners are Crowned

The 2003 Brazilian Soling Nationals ended yesterday at the Veleiros do Sul Yacht Club. George Nehm/Marcos Pinto Ribeiro and Lucio Pinto Ribeiro were the winners.

The only race of the final day was won by Renato Cunha from Rio de Janeiro with Abílio Di Giardi and Fabrício Streppel. They got second overall.

Fourth place in the final race was enough for George Nehm to get hold of the first overall in the 2003 Nationals, claiming his first national title in the class, after he won the the sixth race on the penultimate day to assert his position at the top of the results

“It was a very tough championship since the wind in this season usually blows from South to East. This time we had North East almost everyday, making it more difficult’, mentioned Marcos Ribeiro from the Veleiros do Sul.

A cold front brought a 35 knots and rain late in the morning and racing started after a delay at 14.54 p.m. in cloudy weather and a North West wind of 12 knots, shifting to South West and then to North west again.

The odd weather conditions made a very difficult day for sailors. The 8th race was cancelled due to the lack of wind and the the race start time limit was over.
