Frustrating Final Day
The Hellenic Cup has ended on what was possibly the most frustrating day,s sailing of the entire championship.

The Principal Race Officer, Alan Carlisle, had a difficult day in deciding where to set the course. The breeze was extremely shifty, settling in from one direction before shifting again only five minutes later. Heat 7 finally got away just before four o’clock, despite a scheduled start time of one o’clock. At the start of the race the wind was blowing northwesterly, with the speed anywhere from zero to twelve knots.
The breeze remained shifting throughout the race and the race was shortened, with the PRO preferring to get a result from the day than nothing at all
.
Karabos VIII (Nick Rogers, Leigh Behrens and Peter Lilley) placed first today, in front of USA’s Clairvoyant (Edward Sawyer, Ron Rosenberg and Martin Payne) and Chrisco (GER), sailed by Dieter Schoen, Vincent Hoesch and Andreas Huber.
The winner of the Hellenic Cup was Chrisco. The German Dragon was clearly ahead of their nearest rival on the points, with 13.7 points. Karabos VIII placed second overall with 42 points. Kirribilli II was third, with 49.4 points.
The boats sailing in the Hellenic Cup and the Prince Philip Cup experienced the full range of Hobart weather and sailing conditions, the only thing lacking was rain. For the most part, however, Hobart showed itself off with fine weather and warm to hot temperatures, which contributed to a fantastic championship.
