The Irish Mirror teams of Chris Clayton & Craig Martin and Bobby Collins & Fintan Hughes have sensationally moved into first and second overall ahead of the final days racing in Tasmania.
Before today’s sailing, it was Australian National Champion David Moore who held a two point advantage following wins in races 5 & 6 on Monday in strong Northerly conditions.
However in today’s racing Moore could only manage a 9th and a 10th. It was Clayton & Martin who held their nerve and finished well in both races. A 4th and a 2nd was sufficient for them to leapfrog both Moore and fellow Irish tem-mate Collins to take an overnight lead going into the final two races tomorrow. It was a great day all round for the Irish as Andrew Woodward & James Bendon took top spot in race 7 to move into 4th overall. Australians Glenn & Lloyd Collings won race 8 and although they lie in 15th overall, they have a very real chance of being in the running for the overall title if they can discard their two OCS’s from Sunday.
So everything hinges on tomorrows racing with any one of 5 or 6 boats in with a strong chance of taking the title, especially when discards come into play. For the moment however, with 3 boats in the top 4 positions Irish hopes will be highest.
