Childerley Looks Destined to Retain World Title
While West Australia's Manford strikes a purple patch on Day 4 of the 2002 Waiwera Infinity Water Etchell World Championship in Auckland New Zealand, the title will surely go back to Britain.

While West Australia’s Manford strikes a purple patch on Day 4 of the 2002 Waiwera Infinity Water Etchell World Championship in Auckland New Zealand, the title will surely go back to Britain.
After a second this morning, West Australian Michael Manford and his crew of Richard Rowell and Paul Miller won Race 7 this afternoon by 38 seconds from Cameron Miles. Stuart Childerley was only another 8 seconds back in third place.
Aucklander Nathan Williams moved up to fourth for a pleasing result.
Second at the first mark after a port hand start Peter McNeill held onto fifth place. Gulf Harbour’s own Bruce Kendall was sixth ahead of Julian Plante.
As has happened all week, the wind lifted as the day has gone on. As the leaders commenced the final beat to the finish line, a 29-knot squirt greeted them, but for most of the race it was in the 20-25 band.
Going into the final day tomorrow Childerley’s amazing regatta record of 2,2,1,1,1,3 (dropping 9) means that the Australian mob filling the places behind him have almost no chance of preventing him taking a second World title.
Cameron Miles has now moved into second place ahead of Mark Bradford
