All Down to the Final Race!

One race today will decide the new J22 World Champion after two tough races were sailed in 20 knot northeasterlies yesterday.

South African David Hudson won the first of the days action packed races in which an unidentified crew member from the American boat “Hoss” fell overboard at the second leeward gate. Greg Fisher, in second place overall going into race seven, could only manage a twelfth. Ian Ainslie (RSA finished the race in second which put him at the top of the leaderboard going into race eight.

Race eight started cleanly in a more shifty north westerly breeze and Rob Johnston (USA) sailed a good first lap to lead at the bottom mark. He continued to win the race, his second victory of the championship, which moved him comfortably up to second overall going into the final race today. Second was Terry Flynn (USA) on “Chunder” who moved up to third place behind Johnston. Ian Ainslie, with a sixth in race eight continues to lead on the penultimate day, but with only ten points separating the top three with one race to go, things are pretty tense.
