Yesterday’s’ s races ended with the “Italy Blue” team on top, thus concluding the fifth day of racing for the Thirteenth edition of the Sardinia Cup.
Yesterday’s’s race took the fleet along a 25 mile course, towards the islets of the archipelago of La Maddalena and found a light, 6 knot breeze coming from the north-east.
At the weather mark, two miles after the start, Pasquale Landolfi’s “BravaQ8” ( already winner of the IMS World Championship in Capri this past May) was leading the race along with Massimo Mezzaroma’s “Wind” in the Farr 40 division. Only a few seconds, however, divided the leader from “QQ7-Profit”, to King Juan Carlos’ “Bribon” and “Italtel” driven by Vasco Vascotto. In the Farr 40 division the leader is “Wind”, followed by “Struntje Light”, “Nela” and “Zzenzero”.
The distance between the boats gradually increased more due to the lack of wind thus constraining the Race Committee to shorten the race and place the finish line in front of the Isle of Santo Stefano.
At the finish line, a nice surprise from two teams who have not been performing to their best these past few days. Vasco Vascotto’s “Italtel” crossed the finish line first followed by his team mate Antonio Sodo Migliori’s “Wind” in the Farr 40 division. Both boats make up team “Italy Blue” and with today’s results, they improve their rating from eighth place to fifth place overall. “Italy Blue” is the first Italian team to win both in the IMS and Farr 40 division in this Sardinia Cup. The victory was very well celebrated when a member of the “Italtel” team climbed the mast waving the Italian flag to the tune of Mameli’s National Anthem.
Yesterday’s races saw both “North Sea” and “San Marino” fighting for second place, followed by “USA”, “Italy Yellow”, “Spain”, “Norway”, “Germany”, “France” and “Holland”.
The final classifications award first place yet again to “North Sea”, followed by “USA” and “Italy Yellow”.
Racing continues today and is due to finish tomorrow, Sunday 22 September
