Big Boat Championship Kicks Off Today

Organised by the Costa Smerelda Yacht Club along with title Sponsors Rolex watches. The XIII Maxi Yacht World Championship starts today.

Twenty-five Yachts have congregated in the Mediterranean for this impressive big boat series dedicated to boats at least twenty metres long. Competition has come from ten different nations including, Great Britain, USA, France, Holland and Germany. Previous winners Harry Macklowe on “Unfurled” in the cruising division and Alessandro Grande aboard “Vae Victis” are among the favourites for the event, which includes Stefano Rizzi, recently returned from the Volvo Ocean Race.

Racing continues until 7 September and includes a lay day on Thursday.
