New Team Racing Championship Starts Today

The club national champions of fourteen European countries are in Italy for a unique new team racing competition.

As in the earliest days of international sailing (like the Americas Cup) teams represent clubs not countries. Each must have qualified by winning a national inter-club championship and be made up club members only.

Four-year sponsorship by eyewear retailer GrandOptical has enabled free entry, accommodation and charter for all teams. Prizes include four brand-new boats for the winning clubs. ISAF International Judge Luciano Giacomi heads the world-class umpire team.

The venue is the very beautiful alpine Lake Ledro, high above Garda, which is being developed by the F.V. Riva as a specialised team and match-racing centre.

The racing format will be a round-robin series followed by semi-finals and finals and will take place over the four days from 28-31 August.
