Channel Record Not Ratified

In Making Waves 110, it was stated that the record by Jean-Luc Van Den Heede’s between Cowes set a new monohull Channel record “subject to WSSR ratification”.

The WSSRC regrets to state that this was an untimed and independent passage and not in accordance with the WSSR rules. It is not therefore subject to WSSR ratification and the record for a monohull on the Cowes to Dinard route remains credited to “Silk Cut” sailed by Laurie Smith in a time of 14 hours, 48 minutes and 15 seconds, established in July 1999.”
