Karol Jablonski (POL) Takes The Title

Jablonski won over Jes Gram Hansen (DEN) and Björn Hansen (SWE) in third place. The championship was settled on the results after Round Robin 1 and 2.

The last day of racing provided only very light and shifting winds. The sailing instructions prohibit racing racing to start after 1500 hours on the last day and the decision from the Race Committee was easy with racing abandonded at 1445 hours. Chief Umpire, John Doerr commented, ‘It´s only fair after five days of sailing and 90 matches.’ And the crews agreed.

The Gold Medal was the first for Poland and Karol Jablonski in matchracing. Jablonski is a very happy winner and is now aiming for the Polish America´s Cup project in 2005.

Karol Jablonski went into the Worlds as a bit of a favourite, having already two ISAF Grade 1 Event Titles under his belt this season, the Amer Sports Cup and the Yava Trophy in Russia. Ranked 7th in the world, this result will no doubt propel him further upwards when the rankings are released on 28 August 2002.
