On Saturday the fog decided to show at the earlier hours, so that the first race that was scheduled for 10h00, had to be postponed until 10h45. It was not easy for the Vaurien fleet to have a clean start, because of the little wind (2 to 4 knots), and because of the northerly tide, and just because of nerves in the last day of races.
The race committee, had decided to fly the black flag, but the start wasn’t clean and they had to recall all the fleet again.
Around 12:35h, the fleet started with a flat sea and very little wind, and the portuguese P. Bolina & A . Gonçalves took the lead.
A few moments later in the downwind lap, a strong fog closed the regatta field in minutes, giving no choice than to cancel the race and all others of the day.
And so ended the Vaurien World Championship, with the Spanish team in first position followed closely by Italy and the Netherlands.
