Offshore winds oscilating 30 degrees either side of the mean provided a challenge for both Race Committee and competitors on the third day of the Laser Radial Open and Women’s World Championship.
For the overall leaders, Karlo Krpeljevic (CRO) and Katarzyna Szotynski (POL) it was an opportunity to further extend their leads in the 9 to 15 knot winds. Both finished the end of the qualifying series with the best results in their respective fleets in the two races sailed and hold on to their lead even when a discard is now included.
The male fleet is now split into gold and silver for the remaining 6 races over the next 3 days.
With Karlo Krpeljevic (CRO) leading, Eduardo Cordero (VEN) is lying in second position, with Chris Ashley (USA) currently in third after six races completed.
Katarzyna Szotynski (POL) is leading the Womens fleet. Miranda Powrie (NZL) is in second, and Ciara Peelo (IRL) is in third position.
Racing will conclude on Saturday 27 July to decide the Laser Radial Open and Womens World Champions for 2002.
