Competitors at the Laser European Championships Vallensbaek, Denmark, sailed two races in light to moderate pressure and shifty conditions. A third race was planned for the day, but due to the shifty conditions it was cancelled.
Roope Suomalainen from Finland coped with the tricky conditions well and won both races in his group, moving him up from a position in the twenties to fifth overall. Maciej Grabowski of Poland leads the fleet, after scoring a third and a tenth to give him a three point lead over Karl Suneson of Sweden. ISAF World Ranked No. 1 Paul Goodison (GBR) was second in his group in the first race, but was 17 in second race. “I thought there was a recall, but there was not,” he said as an explanation.
In the youth fleet Ludovic Tristan (FRA) came in first in his group with a first in both races. “There was more wind than yesterday which is better. But I would like some more wind the next days,” Ludovic Tristan said. The weatherforecast for Thursday promises wind from 8 to 10 m/s.
Thomas Le Breton (FRA) is leading the Youth fleet overall, with Timofei Zbankov (RUS) just point behind him.
Competitors have one more day of qualifying races, where it is expected that three races will be sailed before going into gold and silver fleets. Racing concludes on Saturday.
