Some History on the 420 Boat

In many ways the 420 boat began to replace the old and heavy wood boats and gave birth to a new philosophy of a “light” and “economic” boat.

Several prototypes were created until the actual model of open deck, designed and built by Francis Mouvet, was achieved.

In the first stages some initial competitions took place to catch the sailors attention. For example the passage of the Mancha’s channel, the “24hours” or the 420 metres in “420”boats.

The 420 Class has since grown to be a strong and competitive class in many countries.
