Leader Molly Mawk Expected to Finish at 05:00hours Tommorrow

Molly Mawk won the penultimate leg of the race from Lerweck to Lowestoft, despite suffering fairly major bow damage which caused a large amount of water to be thrown back into the cockpit, severely hindering forward vision.

Completing the 520 nautical mile Leg 4 in 49 hours put them in first position both for their 35 to 40 ft Class, and overall.

Upon arrival they quickly set to work to try to repair the damaged bow in the 48 hour stop over, before their departure to Plymouth at 10:28hours yesterday. Second into Lowestoft, and therefore second to set off to Plymouth were Pegasus at 20:11hours yesterday, followed by Branec III at 23:34hours.

The latest news is that both Mollymawk’s main and a replacement jib halyard broke this morning. Andi has spent three hours up the mast reefing a halyard for the mainsail and they restarted at 12:30 off Brighton.

Despite the problems they are facing, they are still leading and are expected to arrive first in Plymouth at 05:00hours tommorrow morning.
