Set Sail With CNNs Inside Sailing in June

Gothenburg, Sweden, the home of Volvo and the setting of the climax of the Volvo Ocean Race, is the location of the June edition of CNN’s monthly programme, ‘Inside Sailing’. Presented by CNN’s business anchor and sailing correspondent Liz George, the sailing news show originates from the place where this year’s dramatic finale saw Germany’s ‘Illbruck’ narrowly seal victory and set a new 24-hour sailing speed world record.

Features on the June programme include:

“An interview with German businessman Michael Illbruck, who has put his family company on the map by creating a team that has dominated the round the world yachts event. We look at how he and skipper John Kostecki masterminded their victory, which has given sailing a huge boost in Germany.

“Liz George takes a look at Volvo’s sponsorship of the Volvo Ocean Race. Has it been a success or failure? What do they plan to do differently next time?

“Preparations are in full swing for the 2003 America’s Cup. CNN’s ‘Inside Sailing’ investigates how the Cup holders, Team New Zealand, are aiming to keep the challengers at bay despite major desertions from their design team and the loss of their most experienced sailors.

“British double Olympic medallist Ben Ainslie gives ‘Inside Sailing’ his top tips on sailing small boats, plus footage of that amazing final race in the Sydney Olympics for the Gold medal.

The top stories making the headlines in the sailing world this month include, Loick Peyron’s battle against storm conditions to achieve victory in the Course des Phares, where over half the fleet retired. From Italy, action from the opening event of the 18ft Skiff Pro Tour and a jubilant
Roland Jourdain and his crew on ‘Sill Plein Fruit’ in the final leg of the Regatta Rubicon.

The monthly half-hour programme presented by CNN in association with UBS Financial Services Group is transmitted in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia
and Latin America on the last Sunday of every month and is repeated on Wednesday and Saturday.
