The inaugural Commonwealth Sailing Championships will be staged in January 2003 at Sail Melbourne, involving Mistral men and women, Laser Radial for women, Laser Men's, Hobie 16 mixed men and women, and 470 men and women.
The inaugural Commonwealth Sailing Championships will be staged in January 2003 at Sail Melbourne, involving Mistral men and women, Laser Radial for women, Laser Men’s, Hobie 16 mixed men and women, and 470 men and women.
The championships, which will be held at Sandringham Yacht Club following on from the Olympic & Invited Classes event, will commence on January 18 and conclude on January 23, 2003. Entrants in the Commonwealth Championships will also be able to compete in the Sail Melbourne regatta, which will be preceded by a two-day AYF coaching session led by Victor Kovalenko.
Participation in the two “back-to-back” international sailing events will provide entrants with top-level competition including the opportunity to become a Commonwealth Champion. Charter boats will be available.

2003 Sail Melbourne will also be the first nomination event in all but the Laser class for sailors vying for the Australian Olympic team selection.
