First in Series

The first of a series of Race Management Seminars was held in Athens in preparation for the first Test Event of the 2004 Olympic Games.

A specially invited group of Race Officers from all parts of Greece, joined the Seminar Instructors, Tony Lockett and Jerome Pels, in Athens for an extended IRO Seminar, which covered some of the additional requirements that apply to the Olympic Games.

The seminar provoked some lively debate and under the guidance of the two Instructors, the group quickly accepted the policies laid down by ISAF in the recently updated Race Management Manual.

On completion of the Seminar, all twenty candidates took the IRO Written Test, with 14 successfully achieving the required standard. There are now 25 persons from Greece who have attained the test standard, three of whom have already been appointed as IRO’s.

Further ISAF Race Management Seminars and practical training are planned for the future.
