Orange passed Cape Leeuwin yesterday afternoon at 1458 GMT, after 29 days, 7 hours and 22 minutes of racing.
Orange is now halfway around the world.
Orange is still making progress in record time, and of the three Capes she has to round – Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn – she now has two safely under her belt.
So far the Jules Verne Trophy looks well within her reach – having set a blistering past for the first stage – Ushant to Cape of Good Hope, and now also from Ushant to Cape Leeuwin – well ahead of previous contenders.
To beat the record, Orange must finish by 2300 hours, 57 minutes and 29 seconds on 12 May 2002.
