With the Volvo Ocean Race fleet, now spread across 17 miles from west to east, and with only six miles now separating the first seven boats, it could prove to be a dead heat in the race to the stronger winds of the Southern Ocean!

Paul Cayard wrote earlier, from Amer Sports One, “..south will still be king for pressure even after we gybe… the tactics are tough here… It is amazing what a guessing game it is. Las Vegas has nothing on ocean racing. …the routing tool is the best calculator of all the variables.”

One thing is certain, with djuice and News Corp still as the west and east fleet markers, and with Tyco, Amer Sports One, illbruck and ASSA ABLOY battling it out in the middle, the racing is extremely tight and proving exciting and challenging for the sailors to maintain their own pace against the other V.O.60s.
