Rudder Failure For Team Tyco

Leaving the racetrack in second position was a hard blow for Team Tyco after damaging their rudder. They diverted north under emergency rudder, heading NNW with six knots of boat speed.

With almost 600 miles to the South African coast it will take them about four days to reach any port. At the moment their course points towards Port Elisabeth.

The other yachts enjoy the fast roller coaster ride that quickly counts down the miles to Sydney. ASSA ABLOY excels in these conditions, giving all the other yachts some miles with every sked. In a five meter wave landscape with single ones up to ten meters, they achieve boat speeds in excess of 30 knots, averaging 16.3. Once again Amer Sports One shows consistency with their second position and djuice is gaining some trust with holding the third, after doubts about their boat speed on leg one. SEB is third in this pack, with a good margin of 20 miles on illbruck. News Corp and Amer Sports Too are fighting to stay in touch with the fleet.
