MAJ Aarne Helminen skippered his Finnish team to a victory at the 2001 World Military Sailing Championships. The best 14 of 16 race regatta was organized by the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM), at the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. The races were sailed over four days
using the 4-person crew, Canadian designed Martin 242 sloop, a twenty-four foot sailboat designed for inshore cruising and racing. Second place was LT Luigi Ravioli of Italy. Third, sailing for the United States was LT. Dave Fagen. ISAF International Judge, Clais Lundin, sailing for Sweden, was sixth in the fifteen country fleet.
